Collect
One of the key ActivEssentials® components is Collect, which is comprised of multiple collection, contextualization and logic engines that transform raw data into contextualized intelligence. These engines provide critical transparency to shop floor information and are designed to collect data from the automation layer, plant floor devices and other electronic sources received from external systems. These powerful collection and logic engines significantly reduce the need to embed logic in the PLC for data collection purposes, resulting in lower implementation and maintenance costs and faster time to results. The ActivEssentials Collect components include the Real-Time Logic Engine and Data Collector.

Data Collector

At the heart of Collect is an engine that connects to the standard automation layer including PLCs, OPC servers and other plant floor devices. Data Collector simplifies the ability to define and configure the collection of data needed for operational visibility. It allows the Activplant Performance Management System to collect data from any source, including non-OPC sources. If data is not available in real-time, Data Collector facilitates the processing whenever the data is received, such as predefined time frames, at batch beginning or end, or the end of shifts. Data Collector standardizes the type of data collected, defines a time frame, and in turn establishes relationships between the collected data. Each element collected in the PLC is gathered without any concept of what else is being collected. The key to clarity is establishing and maintaining the data relationships. Data Collector maintains these connections between the data without having to establish the relationship in the collection process itself.

Real-Time Logic Engine

The Real-Time Logic Engine transforms manufacturing data into intelligence. This bi-directional, high-availability module transforms data by aggregating and manipulating it with expressions, formulas, triggers, actions and scripting. By integrating and aggregating information from multiple sources, the Real-Time Logic Engine has powerful transformation capabilities to create logic that cannot be handled in the PLC. It significantly reduces the need to embed logic in the PLC for data collection purposes, resulting in lower implementation and maintenance costs and faster time to results.
