Activplant Corporation Receives the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Enterprise
Manufacturing Intelligence Enabling Technology of the Year Award for its
Performance Management System
Palo Alto, Calif. — April 24, 2006 —Frost & Sullivan has selected Activplant Corporation as the recipient of the 2006 Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence Enabling Technology of the year Award for the Activplant Performance Management System (APMS). This system has translated discrete industry business requirements into innovative solutions that positively impact customers’ bottom-line.
Each year, this Award is presented to a company that has developed a technology that can benefit or revolutionize the industry. The Award recipient has developed a system or enabling component of a system that removes a significant stumbling block in the development of technology.
Activplant’s APMS helps customers realize required process efficiencies by focusing their human and capital resources on solving critical operational problems. Developed on the Microsoft® .NET platform, APMS provides plant-wide solutions that drive efficient decision making by integrating data across separate groups and incorporating them under key performance indices (KPI).
“Activplant’s patented Universal Factory Data Model (UFDM) enables customers to collect and analyze critical shop floor data and translate it into actionable information aimed at improving operational efficiency,” say Frost & Sullivan Research Analysts Sanjeev R Sridharan and Arun Kumar J. “Customers in the manufacturing industry rate Activplant as a company that has helped them identify critical bottlenecks in real-time and provide an accurate roadmap to drive down manufacturing costs.”
As testimony to the superlative customer confidence in the company’s ability to create profit-impacting solutions, five of the six major automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and 60 percent of tier 1 automotive suppliers use Activplant solutions.
Activplant has been popular as a market innovator and trendsetter in developing enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) solutions for discrete and hybrid industries. While most market participants focused on bridging the gap between the enterprise and shop floor data systems, Activplant ingeniously worked on a data model that could translate collected information into pertinent data for plant managers.
Activplant pioneered the flexible UFDM that provides the connective framework to seamlessly integrate plant data and categorize them, providing unparalleled visibility into the plant floor. The sheer scalability of the patented UFDM model enables customers to validate the benefits of a plant-wide Activplant rollout and progressively deploy the solutions at any number of global sites. Moreover, the lower costs of leveraging UFDM have enabled customers to extend Activplant solutions to multiple manufacturing locations.
“Another aspect that customers reiterate is the rapid deployment capability of Activplant solutions, which enables them to achieve faster payback,” notes Sridharan. “The Activplant strategy of working closely with customers and investing more time in the initial stages towards analyzing critical customer needs enables rapid deployment of a solution that satisfies their unique requirements.”
The different manufacturing metrics and criteria involved in monitoring varied processes at several global plants enhance the need for a multi-plant and multi-disciplinary model for data collection. While peer group companies are still groping with the problem of providing customized solutions for different manufacturing plants, the inherent flexibility of the UFDM allows seamless deployment of Activplant’s solution in a range of manufacturing environments.
Activplant’s pioneering role in the manufacturing intelligence space has been further reinforced with the announcement of its new product line for the manufacturing intelligence space called ActivEssentials. The first component to rollout from the ActivEssentials stable has been Insight, which vantages service oriented architecture (SOA) for automatic reporting of relevant data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format.
“Insight enables the collection of relevant usable data that can be correlated with the actual plant performance,” observes Arun. “The unique capability of APMS in providing complete visibility, coupled with efficient reporting, helps reduce training and consulting costs, thereby strengthening Activplant’s claim of being an economical and viable partner to the manufacturing industry.”
